Dove, in collaboration with beauty and lifestyle magazine, Glamour, released the July cover for the publication’s highly anticipated Mind and Body issue, – featuring actress Ama Qamata as the cover star who was photographed by body positivity advocate, Lesego ‘ThickLeeyonce’ Legobane. Ahead of the cover’s release, Dove held an event with Qamata, media partners, and influencers to discuss the effects of AI on representation in the media, and its effects on women and girls.
The event was attended by Thabsie, Modern Zulu Mom Siya Bunny to name a few, with an engaging panel discussion led by Qamata and photographer and body positivity activist, Thickleeyonce.
Dove Brand representative Anele Nzimande said: “The standards of beauty are being redefined at breakneck speed and are transforming how we see ourselves not only as women, but as society. While we cannot halt the rise of AI-generated beauty presentations, as Dove we are taking a standby pledging to never use Ai to depict real women in our ads.”
For 20 years, Dove has shown the world what beauty looks like when it’s real, starting with the Campaign for Real Beauty. And today as we transition into an era where 90% of content is predicted to be generated by AI by 2025, nuanced conversations around AI and its effects on the essence of real beauty are needed now more than ever. Here is to a reality where real beauty is celebrated, authentic, and inclusive.
