On Thursday, 5 December, Archive’s Bree Street flagship store unveiled an exciting new chapter in its Homegrown First Thursday event, marking the launch of the Archive Artist Project. This collaborative collection of footwear and apparel, designed by Ziyaad Samsodien in partnership with Grasshoppers, blends art and fashion with a distinctly South African touch.

THE COLLECTION

Inspired by the rugged beauty of Oudtshoorn, where the Grasshoppers factory is located, this unique collection draws on elements from the surrounding landscape. Each piece tells a story rooted in the local topography, capturing the essence of the Swartberg Mountains, the Leopard Tortoise, the Knysna Dwarf Chameleon, and the expansive Karoo and Southern Cape deserts.

The footwear in the collection features intricate design elements inspired by these natural wonders, while the apparel showcases graphic tees adorned with exclusive illustrations by Ziyaad Samsodien.

LIMITED EDITIONS

As part of the Artist Project, Archive is also offering limited-edition A1 and A2 prints of Samsodien’s artwork, available exclusively in-store. This collaboration offers a unique opportunity for customers to own a piece of the creative process behind the collection, blending fashion with fine art.

Visit Archive’s Bree Street store to explore this one-of-a-kind collection, featuring both wearable art and distinctive prints that reflect South Africa’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
