When the DStv Content Creator Awards, in Association with Samsung Galaxy, announced that Donovan Goliath was going to host and MC its second awards show on 9 September, he was thrilled.
So thrilled, in fact, that he wanted everyone in Joburg to know. He wanted his face on a billboard. His name in lights. A prolific content creator and comedian, Donovan went so far as to create a video on Instagram showing himself calling around to see who could sponsor him a billboard in honour of his hosting the awards.
The “Billboard Lady” at the other end of the phone call wasn’t so keen. Like, at all. But One-eyed Jack, the producers of the DStv Content Creator and Primedia Outdoor, were.
Donovan wanted a billboard. So, they didn’t exactly. They got Donovan a billboard.
With just a few days to go before the awards’ big night, award-winning marketing and events agency, One-eyed Jack got on the phone with partners at Primedia Outdoor to make this tactical opportunity happen. And they jumped on board straight away. Within less than 24 hours, the billboard was up on Rivonia Road and creators and influencers alike were posting and sharing it.
