It’s not every day you get to see so many legends – present and future – on one stage. After the success of the Mahika Mahikeng music festival in December 2023, the Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation in the North West Province has announced the concert’s return for its seventh instalment.
Last year saw over 41 000 music lovers grace the Mmabatho Stadium. This year we hope to see even more culture queens and kings flock to the heartbeat of the North.
The festival will take place from the 05th of December right to the 8th of December at the Mmabatho Stadium. Besides the beats, the art and food on offer will help to make this an unforgettable cultural experience.
The people of Mahikeng look forward to welcoming visitors for the seventh instalment of this iconic festival, renowned for the sound of motswako, and the buzz of economic activity that it brings to Bokone Bophirima (the North West province).
With music at its heart, Mahika Mahikeng is not just a festival—it’s a movement that celebrates Bokone Bophirima’s heritage, growth, and the sonic brilliance that has made us a global cultural powerhouse.
“Our excitement is once again peaking as we get ready to kick off the festive season in style at the Mahika Mahikeng Cultural Festival! As the country’s premier launch event for the festive season, we are bringing together the best of home-grownmusical talent to create an electrifying atmosphere that will set the stage for a season of celebration,” said Mr Shuping Sebolecwe, spokesperson: Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation in the North West Province.
“The return of the festival is a source of pride for our province. The Department of Arts and Culture in the North West is thrilled that the mission of promoting cultural and heritage tourism, while showcasing the talents of local artists to the entire nation, will carry on. The Department remains committed to supporting this flagship programme, which promotes cultural diversity, social cohesion, reconciliation, peace, and economic development throughout the province.”
Mahika Mahikeng is hailed for its authentic representation and its ability to create platforms for emerging stars from the platinum province. It is for that reason that the music festival has been endorsed by the likes of Stoan Seate, who will be performing at the festival as part of the group Bongo Maffin.
“We promise world-class entertainment that will not only delight your senses but also contribute to the local economy, supporting businesses and providing opportunities for growth. Join us as we harmonise culture, creativity, and community in a celebration that will resonate long after the music fades away,” Seate said.
This edition of Mahika Mahikeng is going to be spectacular. There is something for everyone – from comedy fans to jazz lovers and hip hop heads. Some of the major acts include Lira, Thandiswa Mazwai Zonke, Mandisi Dyantysi Mi Casa, Bongo Maffin, and more.
