Read Time:1 Minute, 39 Second

Supernatural thriller ‘Burns and Song’ is a gripping story set against the backdrop of an urban capital with a history of secrets that delves into the dark corners of the human psyche.

Characters Risimu, Tendero, Nicole and Ngozi bring the film to life in various ways as they explore family, a dark past and troubling memories.

The film’s synopsis sees Risimu as the perfect housewife to Tendero and a doting mother to Nicole. Her life is centered around her family, but Simu hides a dark past. It does not matter how far she has run from the village she destroyed; memories of that day ravage her sleep, and now her nightmares seep into her waking hours. One chaotic morning sees the return of a troubling presence, a vengeful spirit, Ngozi, she thought she had escaped. Ngozi threatens to expose Simu and destroy the people she loves to pay back what Simu did in the past unless she settles a debt she owes by Nicole’s 13th birthday. Simu will do anything to preserve the beautiful life she has painstakingly woven together, but reality demands that she transforms her destructive streak and build anew before everything she loves becomes ash.

The thriller straddles the horror genre and explores complex characters, supernatural elements, emotional hooks, relationships, financial troubles, traumatic events, secret feelings, and more to hook the viewer.

Burns and Song is inspired by the matriarchs in my life. I’ve been curious about the aspects of their past that they conceal from the present generation because they want to protect us. The danger with secrets, though, no matter how shameful they may be, can cause more harm than good, and Risimu, our heroine’s journey explores that.” said Tendayi Nyeke, Executive Producer.

Having been selected for its world premiere at the Dance with Films: Los Angeles Festival, and with more screenings around the world on the horizon, Burns and Song is impressively one to watch out for.
