Rock Rough And Stuff With Your Afro Puffs
By LM | 2 October 2017
Rock on with your bad self!
Afropunk! No need to say more, but we will…
Who wouldn’t want to shout from the rooftops about a movement that celebrates black artists through film, art, music, food and skate? The once festival and now the movement is a melting pot of sub-cultures, tastes and fun fashions that have been defining music in a world of multiculturalism and diversity for more than 13 years.
It is interesting to note, however, that over the years the organisers have expanded the music genres and as such one will spend the festival immersed in alternative, rock, hip hop, blues, R&B and electric music. In so doing, the festival has transitioned from niche based to a broader inclusion.
The theme for this year’s Afropunk is taken from the beginning of both the South African and the US constitution – “We the People.” While dressing up-up is not mandatory, Afropunk is notorious for its dope fashion, eclectic and beautiful people.
Dates: 30th & 31st December 2017
Times: From 11am
Venue: Constitution Hill
Tickets: Available from Webtickets
Remember, the underlying notion of Afropunk is that it is a safe space for a diverse (black) people. Its heartbeat is freedom of expression and lifeblood is the range of humans that it attracts. As such, it is important that you open yourself to the new experience and go there with a good attitude!
That is why it only makes perfect sense that we will be rocking into 2018 at Constitution Hill on the 30th and 31st of December 2017.
We can’t wait! Can you? For more information on the lineup and what you can expect visit www.afropunkfest.com/johannesburg or keep it social on their handles below:
