CRAIGELLACHIE, the internationally renowned ‘Bad Boy of Speyside’, has arrived in South Africa to bring local fans the award-winning single malt Scotch whisky. And its arrival last night was celebrated in true CRAIGELLACHIE style – by rebelling against conventional whisky norms.

We had the pleasure of being elegantly treated to an out of the norm whisky pairing at the eccentric Marabi club in the city of Johannesburg. Taste of Africa with a modern twist was perfectly paired with CRAIGELLACHIE 51, 17 and 13 year-olds. Delighted by welcome drinks created by Sabrina Traubner from the Cape Town bartender scene and Devin Cross in Johannesburg. Sounds of smooth jazz enchanting the mood whilst we became accustomed and officially welcomed CRAIGELLACHIE with Global Brand Ambassador, Georgie Bell.

South African whisky lovers will soon have a chance to experience the newest expression, which has patiently waited 51 years to be enjoyed. CRAIGELLACHIE 51 is the Distillery’s newest, oldest whisky to date.

Unlike many other aged whiskies of this stature, CRAIGELLACHIE 51 has not been bottled in a fancy crystal decanter, does not carry an exorbitant price tag and is not being shipped to auction houses for only a select few to enjoy. The unique whisky has been resting in oak casks for 51 years already, and it doesn’t deserve to sit on a shelf for another 51 years collecting dust. A whisky this good should be enjoyed right away.

Going against the grain, the Scotch whisky has decided to share its newest yet oldest expression – dram by dram – with fans around the world. Over the past 12 months, CRAIGELLACHIE 51 – of which there are only 51 bottles available – has toured the world and been made available at special tasting events in London, New York, and Sydney; and now, it’s South Africa’s turn. Local whisky appreciators can prepare themselves for a once-in-a-lifetime whisky tasting experience.

“We wanted to do the unthinkable. We wanted to make a typically collectible Scotch more accessible. We want to give as many people as we can the spectacular chance to try this incredible whisky, because how often does a whisky of this age and calibre actually get tasted?” ~ Global Ambassador, Georgie Bell

Since November 2018, CRAIGELLACHIE 51 has travelled the world, treating fans to its 51-year whisky wisdom. This November, Johannesburg and Cape Town, will get to experience CRAIGELLACHIE with two intimate pop-ups called Bar 51 – a bar within a bar. Over these four nights, fans in both cities stand a chance to be some of the few in the world to taste CRAIGELLACHIE 51, along with being some of the first in South Africa to try a dram of CRAIGELLACHIE’s 13 Year Old and CRAIGELLACHIE’s 17 Year Old, which will be available in South African stores going forward.
