The golden child of the weekdays. The superhero of the workweek. The welcome wagon to the weekend. The famous F word we thank God for every week. ~ Anonymous
Recently opening its doors to foodies, Likers Of Things and all you Friday lovers, this is a place to let your palates indulge and let your mood be enlightened. The restaurant is beautiful. It’s stylish and on-trend like a badass influencer. The service is homey like your friendly neighborhood and the food… glorious like leaving work at 2 pm on a Friday. We had the pleasure of getting our Friday feeling satisfied and let’s just say… Midrand, you have a gem here.
Fridays Restaurant is a newly opened restaurant situated in Blue Hills Shopping Centre. The restaurant is proudly owned by a gentleman named Tumelo Maepa. Fridays Restaurant prides themselves on their signature quality food and a dash of signature cocktails. There is an area to try your dance moves or if you prefer a calm environment, to wine and dine.
Q & A With Tumelo
Why the restaurant/hospitality business? – Having worked as a Brand Builder for Edward Snell, a hard beverages company, I developed a burning passion for hospitality through food and drink. This passion birthed the idea and vision of opening an upscale dining setting that would satisfy the adventurous diner with an affinity for delectable dishes
What audience are you hoping to attract? A specific target market? – I have an emmence passion for young people and steer the resturant ship in the ethos of family ties, open and honest dialogue between management and employees. Fridays is open to anyone who wants to experince good food, with great comfort in an inviting and exceptional atmosphere.
Anything you would do differently thus far? – My aim is to disrupt the hospitality sector and build a recognisable brand with presence in at least three provinces in the near future.
Friday’s aims to create an inviting eatery and cocktail lounge. The space embraces and welcomes anyone that visits the restaurant and lounge to unexpected exceptional service and experience. When planning Fridays the founder went for an industrial chic modern style to compliment the current space of the shop. The design approach was to create a luxe feel with an industrial flair that is minimalistic but still has an elegant presence. He wanted the space to be purposely styled yet provide a fine restaurant and lounge experience.
Q & A With Chef Thokozane
What is your favorite meal to make? – My favourite meal to make and it is the avocado con polo with tagliatelle pasta. I choose all my favourite dishes that I’ve cooked since my training days and adapted them to the modern cooking technique.
What would you highly recommend from the menu and how did you choose dishes for the menu? – To start I would recommend the Pressed Pork Belly. It’s a very funky colourful dish that showcases the mood and nature of the restaurant. The duck breast for mains is the dish that stands out and has great balance between sweet and savoury taste. For dessert, I recommend the baked ginger cheesecake because it taste like nothing you’ve ever tasted, and ginger is never associated with dessert.
Your worst kitchen nightmare? – My worst kitchen experience was having no stock an hour before the function.
How do you feel about pairings? – I’m for food and beverage pairings, they open ones mind to new tastes enhanced by the paired beverage.
