The Commuter

Genre: Action

Director: Jaume Collet-Serra

Liam Neeson returns to the big screen as Michael MacCauley, a businessman who gets caught in a whirlwind, action-packed conspiracy that forces him a dangerous passenger on a commuter train.

The Shape Of Water

Genre: Romantic Sci-fi

Date: 19 January 2018

Director: Guillermo del Toro

From the man that brought you Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy comes a unique love story set in the Cold War about a lonely, deaf lady named Elisa (played Sally Hawkins) who works in a secret government facility and her life is turned inside out when she finds love in the most unusual place with an unusual person

Why We LIKE: G (as I like to call him because we’re homies) is a directorial genius. Everything he makes is cinematic glory as he has an ability to engulf you in an entirely different universe while telling a beautiful story about love and sacrifice. Basically, its gonna be awesome.

Insidious – The Last Key

Genre: Horror

Director: Adam Robitel

The 4th installment in the Insidious saga is a supernatural horror thriller that follows Dr. Elise Rainier (played by Lin Shaye) who is a parapsychologist (which basically means she has a doctorate in spooky stuff) as endures the creepiest haunting of her career as it happens in her own home.

Why We LIKE: Yes, I know it’s another sequel but if you need to see things go bump in the night or just ominously raise the hairs behind your neck, this one is for you.

Maze Runner – Death Cure

Genre: Action Sci-fi

Date: 26 January 2018

Director: Wes Ball

The 3rd chapter in the Maze Runner Saga sees Thomas (played by Dylan O’Brien) continues his journey to rescue his friends (and obviously there’s a girl involved) and ultimately save the world from a global pandemic called the “flare”, that’s turned the world into a post-apocalyptic dystopic wasteland.

Why We LIKE: Honestly, I personally had too many questions after the second installment. WE NEED ANSWERS!!! Watch the first 2 movies first, just so you play catch-up in the first 20 minutes of the movie.

Proud Mary

Genre: Action

Taraji P. Henson plays Mary, an assassin working for an organized crime family in Boston, but things go sideways during a job and she forced to take care of this young boy.

Why We LIKE: Imagine if John wick and Foxy Brown had a baby it would Mary. She’s outchea kicking ass and taking names like a boss. Plus it Taraji.


Inxeba (The Wound)

Inxeba is a young man named Xolani (played by Nakhane Toure) who goes to ‘The mountain’ in the Eastern Cape for initiation school. This film is a powerful look into manhood, masculinity, and sexuality through one of South Africa’s oldest traditions.

50 Shades Freed

Black Panther

The next addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees T’Challa A.k.a Black Panther (played by Chadwick Bosman) returns home to #Wakanda to take his rightful place as king after the tragic passing of his father.

Red Sparrow

Genre: Action

Francis Lawrence brought to life Constantine, I Am Legend and The Hunger Games so we should trust him to bring the story of Dominika Egorova (Jennifer Lawrence) to life. She is a Prima ballerina recruited to a Russian intelligence service, where she gets trained to use her mind and her body (in every way possible) to execute a mission. On her first mission, a CIA agent complicates things and threatens to expose secrets for both countries.

Why We LIKE: This is the Black Widow origin story we never got! Starring Jennifer Lawrence as the most badass Russian spy ever. Sex, espionage, guns and hand-to-hand combat all wrapped up in the action-packed proverbial ribbon. I want to see this right now.

A Wrinkle In Time

Genre: Fantasy

Director: Ava Du Vernay

From Oscar-winning director Ava DuVernay brings the classic book titled A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle. Two siblings discovery their father is missing and they embark on an interdimensional journey to find him.

Why We LIKE: This is not the first film adaption of this book and the first one did not do well but sometimes you need to screw something up to make it better. With an amazing cast featuring Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon, its bound to be an amazing onscreen journey.

Tomb Raider

Genre: Action/Adventure

Based on the action-adventure game, Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) returns to the big screen on an adventure to find out what secrets her father discovered after his disappearance.

Why We LIKE: Because Lara Croft is back! Angelina Jolie’s rendition was an encapsulation of feminine bad-assery and by the looks of the thing Alicia will not disappoint, she does have an Oscar after all.

Ready Player One

Genre: Action/Adventure/Sci-fi

Director: Steven Spielberg

A multi-billion-dollar creator of a virtual reality world called the Oasis dies and leave his entire inheritance within an Easter egg inside the virtual world and whoever finds it gets to keep it. It seems there are higher stakes than just the game.

Why We LIKE: It is Spielberg. The man gave us E.T., Jaws, Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park. This is rumored to be his magnum opus. Plus the pop culture references are crazy (did you see the Iron giant in the trailer?)


Five Fingers For Marseilles

Why We LIKE: Beautiful stories about old people and the end to impending lives and that it’s not too late to find a meaning and real happiness. It’s funny and British.

Avengers: Infinity Wars

This culmination of 8 years of the blockbuster phenomenon will arrive on the 27th of April. The MCU brings us its pride and jewel and its biggest big bad, Thanos. The Avengers have to assemble again to stop the baddest villain they have ever faced and stopped him from collecting all six infinite stones.
